Old Bench

This is one of the first pictures I took when I decided to explore the capabilities of my Nikon Coolpix 110. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Cracking open the manual, I found the ISO settings had a fairly wide range, and my what a difference it made to quality when I adjusted it t0 80!

To get this photo I had to travel no further than my back yard. I am pleased with the composition of this photo more than anything. The colors are interesting, but this picture also represents one of my first attempts to “enhance” a picture with image editing software, and although I was able to make the colors pop nicely the fine details are poor. For instance, you can see a definite line at the bottom center of the picture where the edge of the arm rest is against the deck railing.

Still, I think it is striking and one of my better efforts at composition. Sadly, this is a picture that was lost in an accident with a trial version of Adobe Lightroom, and the only copy I had was a low resolution version I’d uploaded to Facebook.

What’s good: Composition, color, clarity of details

What’s bad: Post-processing lacks polish and is clearly an early learning attempt
