f/3.5, 0.8, ISO-400, 18mm

Here’s a rare two-picture day. A bit narcissistic of me perhaps but I think this is just about the best picture of me that’s ever been taken. Been trying for weeks to get something of myself that was worthwhile and after lots of attempts at careful setup and positioning and camera angles and light sources….well, I learned once again that I tend to do best when I don’t over-think things.

I had literally 5 minutes to get this shot – from setting up the tripod to putting the camera in the bag again – before the carpool whisked me away to work this morning. I snapped the shutter just one time. I think I would like this picture displayed at my funeral (not that I’m planning to have one any time soon).

There is very little post-processing here. Just some dodging to take some glare off my forehead and hand, and I darkened the background to complete black. Despite the obvious signs of aging, I rather like the skin texture on my face. And of course I’m a big fan of stark shadows, particularly when I am the subject.
