    Nice. Did you take that in our woods? Today we found a tree that had been split in quarters; each fourth fell in an ordinal direction. Spooky.

      I found this in a nature preserve a little north of Vinton (where I get most of my nature shots, actually). I would love to get a shot of that quartered tree. Sounds great! Actually, I live in perpetual fear that will happen in our back yard. We have a 70 foot Chinese Elm in the back maybe 30 feet from the house, and about 10 feet from the ground it is split in four huge limbs each big enough for a single tree itself. I’m just waiting for it to fall over and destroy our house. But I’ve been waiting for 15 years.
