Steam Heat

Steam Heat

After several blistering-hot days, we had a torrential rainstorm at sunset, complete with hail and high winds. As the sun settled below the horizon, the storm blew off to the east and the air cooled by a good 20 degrees.

The asphalt streets, on the other hand, retained the tremendous heat they had absorbed even through the rainfall, and within minutes it began to appear as though we’d only had a light sprinkle for all the moisture that could be seen. However, in a particularly damp spot, under the glare of headlights, steam could be seen rising from the street fully an hour after the rain had stopped.
