Red Flowers

Red Flowers

f/10, 1/125, ISO-100, 36mm

This is another example of me playing around with the camera, creating setting based on reading the histogram rather than what I actually see through the viewfinder. Next time I play with this stuff, I think I’m going to do direct comparisons, taking a photo first with what I think the settings should be, then another based on what the camera’s histogram tells me.

In this case, I am pretty sure I gained a lot of detail that I would normally have lost, while also getting a more striking contrast between the brightness of the foreground and the relative darkness of the background. Had I done this shot by eye as I normally do, I think a lot of detail would have been lost, or “blown out,” in the flower petals, resulting in a red blob with no real definition.
