Autumn Color

Autumn Color

f/4, 1/160, ISO-100, 50mm

This is why I like shooting in the morning sun, or even the evening sun (though I get a bit tired in the evenings to make that practical much of the time – also, as this is facing east, an evening shot would have lost just a bit of the point of the picture).

To be honest, I’m not generally a fan of landscape photography – well, no that’s not true. I like it a lot from other people. I tend to think it’s not my forte though. But this shot was pretty obvious even for a neophyte like me, and demonstrates how dramatic Iowa can be at times.

I like it. Not sure what you use to edit, but you might try applying a graduated filter from the top left corner to darken the sky and horizon there a bit. Love the colors.

Thanks Mike! I use Lightroom for my editing for the most part. I actually did try a graduated filter and a few other techniques to add some definition to the blown out sky, but I wasn’t happy with any of those efforts, so I left it as is. The problem was that it was a very hazy day on the river, even at 10:00, and I just couldn’t get an exposure that would cut through it.
