Changing Leaves

Changing Leaves

f/1.8, 1/250, ISO-100, 50mm

When I was at Effigy Mounds about 3 weeks ago to see what I could get with autumn colors, one of the things I struggled with was getting pictures besides landscapes. Landscapes are nice and all, but knew in my photographer’s soul that there were thousands of photos I was walking past that were close range, but I wasn’t seeing the opportunity. This has always been an issue for me in densely packed scenes. Isolating one thing out of the grand picture is something that I’m really going to try to put a priority on for the coming year.

At any rate, here is one of the few attempts I made to get the close-up shot. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. The colors are vibrant and all, but I’m not sure there’s a clear subject, or focus of attention.

I see the clear subject as being the gigantic Sycamore? leaf on the left. I really like this photo. The sun is playing beautifully on the those gold leaves, and I do see that big Sycamore leaf. And I love Sycamore leaves. 🙂 And fall is about all those leaves on the ground too, so this is a perfect representation of this. I think it’s a beautiful photo.

Thank you. I’m still very much learning how to use focus and depth of field to isolate a clear subject out of a busy scene. Once I settle on something I think I have the technical skills to pull it off on many occasions, but I still need to train myself to “see” what the picture is. I appreciate your comments very much!

Thank you for looking and commenting. I frequently get wonderfully lost in the beauty of your photos, so I’m glad I can return the favor from time to time 🙂

I like the colors and the bokeh. I’m a fan of autumn leaves shots, and this is a beautiful one.
