Silver Lining

Silver Lining

f/7.1, 1/400, ISO-200, 50mm

What drew me to this photo was the silver color on this tree in front of the autumn colors at Hanging Rock in Effigy Mounds. I accentuated the hell out of this aspect of the scene, and I’m not sure it’s not to the photo’s detriment. The whole thing comes off as this dark mass that is difficult to distinguish. Still, it’s striking enough that I wanted to post it and get other’s reactions.

I wonder if perhaps you wouldn’t have been better served with some localized adjustments… perhaps some masking off of the effect from the tree trunk to lower its impact to the scene… I think adding a bit of pop to the background treetops (contrast and/or saturation) might help bring the branches out more.

This is one of those you can spend a lot of time playing with things in your software to see where it takes you.

I think you’re probably right. I need to come back to this and take a second look at what kinds of interesting things I can manage with a fresh eye. I think I am kind of “autumned out” what with 15 or so pictures in the last couple of weeks.

In a couple of months when we’re looking at a foot of snow on the ground this picture will become a welcomed diversion. 😉

Thank you! It is always good to get such positive feedback on a work you’re not to sure of.
