Out Of Respect

Effigy Mounds National Monument in northeast Iowa derives its names from the ceremonial mounds of earth built by Native Americans long ago. These mounds come in the shape of various animals for the most part, and their origins are somewhat of a mystery. They are burial mounds, however, and there are prominent signs pointing out the mounds with wild grasses and flowers, and asking visitors not to walk on them. There is something of majesty about these mounds and this area, and inspires reverence.

Thanks! I don’t feel like I did the scene justice, but I’m not unhappy with the shot. It was a very inspiring place, especially early in the morning when I was the first one to the spot. So quiet, peaceful, and reverent.

Nice and quiet little corner to rest for eternity. I like the lighting in this shot.
