I really don’t like this photo. I hesitate to even call it a photo. I’m tempted to call it a picture (which is as close as I can come to verbally spitting on an image).
I don’t know if it’s really as bad as I make it out to be, but I sensed so much more potential when I saw it, and I’m not entirely sure where I failed. There are several things that come together to make this unsatisfying for me. For one, the light is all wrong. It was taken at the height of the afternoon sun, and the shadows are horrendous. I should have been out there maybe 5 hours earlier or 3 hours later. The angle is wrong too. I should have been several inches to the left. There wasn’t much I could do about that, though, because I don’t own hip waders and I was precariously balanced on tiny bits of rock just above the waterline as it was. Had I slipped I would have lost $1000 worth of camera equipment.
Still, I can find things I like about it. I love the water’s texture, and that’s about the only thing that led me to make this image public. I like the colors of gold and blue. But the composition is terribly disappointing. Oh well. Maybe next time.
