Golden River

f/23, 1/30 - 1/320, ISO-200, 18mm

Here’s one I originally posted to my Facebook account, which is what I reserve for the photos I don’t particularly care for, but aren’t awful. However, I got a number of positive comments about it from people whose opinion I value, so I decided to post it here as well on the theory that I am at times the worst judge of my work.

Mostly I think my negative opinion of this comes from the fact that it’s HDR, and I have a natural proclivity toward frowning on HDR. Also, I dont’ think it’s a particularly good example of HDR, and that makes it even worse in my eyes. I mean, what’s the point of HDR if half the image is still under-exposed?

To me, the photo is immediately striking because of its color and high contrast, but it also seems all about special effects and little about photography.

Anyway, here it is. Hope you enjoy it, but  if you don’t, you  don’t need to worry about hurting my feelings 🙂

sometimes you just want to do something a little different – it’s called experimenting, and a good photographer should always be looking to do that every once in a while (though sometimes I also wonder I bother with trying HDR:-/)
