An engineering team I work with wanted a team photo because,  after all,  they are that awesome. An image very much like above was what came immediately to mind. I knew the location and I imagined a dramatic sunrise backlighting them. Alas, asking a team of engineers to be ready by sunrise is a tall order. Originally I was told 9:30. OK, I can make 9:30 work. Then more conflicts arose and 1:30 was the new agreed-upon time. I gulped. I wasn’t all that sure I could make that work as well, and things got worse as the day wore on and the clouds dissipated into a perfectly clear day. Where was the drama in that?

But providence won out in the end, and and clouds returned even more dramatic than before. I found a hilltop I could put them on, and I laid down on the ground several feet below to get a great angle. I metered the sky, took it down a couple of stops further to increase the contrast, and came away with one of the best human-subject shot of my short career. I hope you like it as well.

Thanks! I was kinda proud of it myself. Wasn’t so much fun lying down in the midst of tons of goose droppings to get it though…
