Winter River

Winter River

f/4, 1/320, ISO-200, 50mm

I go past this scene every day on the way home from work, and have done for nine years now. It’s a view from Interstate 80, and I get to look at it whenever I’m not the driver in my carpool. But I never really saw it until a couple of weeks ago when there was a heavy, wet snowfall adorning the trees. It caught me totally by surprise and there was no chance to get the camera out, but I promised myself that on the next snowfall I would be ready.

Well, that happened yesterday. The snow was heavy and wet again, but the air temperature was just a degree or two further north than it had been the other time, so the snow was melting faster and not sticking to the trees as dramatically. At 60 MPH, I only had time for one exposure and I was hoping at 1/320 would be fast enough (it wasn’t quite). But here’s an example I guess of what I can accomplish – or not – when I only have one quick chance.
