See The Music

See the Music

f/7.1, 1;/200, ISO-100, 50mm

I was privileged to be asked to do senior portraits for this young man the other day, and this was the very first shot I took. I have a flash off to the left with a warm gel and through a diffuser or two. The location was just outside his front door.

While this won’t mean much to many of you loyal readers, I am proud of this picture in a couple of different ways. Obviously, the subject himself was very relaxed for the camera and understands instinctively how to let the picture take care of itself rather than try to force a good picture. On my side, I was pleased that what you see is very close to the way it came out of the camera. I cropped it, of course, and I added an exposure gradient from right to left to even out the lighting. I nudged up the yellow slightly and sharpened a bit, but try as I might there was very little I could do to improve the original image.

I love it. You seemed to have captured his “essence.” Beautiful.

Thank you! Slowly but surely I think I might be getting the hang of this portrait thing!

Take this first shot ! It’s a winner and close up for the day. Fantastic!

I was certainly very pleased with it! Hopefully I have a couple of other shots that are passable as well 😉
