Missed Opportunity

Missed Opportunity

f/5.6, 1/250, ISO-800, 55mm

Learned an important lesson today, as the sunlight faded into the horizon. It’s been a busy few weeks, and eagle-eyed followers will notice the number  of posts here have dwindled significantly. Today I had some plans but they fell through last night, so I had nothing at all to do. Sun was shining, temperature was warm Perfect opportunity to get reacquainted with my camera.

Ah, but I was tired, so I slept in and didn’t bother with the sunrise. And then I had some stuff to at the church anyway, and I had to help my wife out with some things, so the morning was gone. Then I got into a TV show marathon and I knew I should get up and go out, but y’know…the day turned windy, and windy outdoor photowalks are hardly ever productive. Besides, I couldn’t think of a good place to go.

So finally I realized that really what was going is that I was out of the habit of doing photography, and I had to flog myself to get back into it. By the time this realization came about, it really was too late to go out and about and do a proper photowalk, so I grabbed my camera and headed for the garden in the back yard.

A few days ago the tulip you see above would have been spectacular. Today it’s a missed opportunity.

Still a pretty awesome shot. Nice work. I struggle with the same thing you write about. For me sunrise photography is what gets me going. I’ve not been out to shoot the sunrise in months.
