Relaxed Drama

Relaxed Drama

f/1.8, 1/50, ISO-100, 50mm, Strobe & Fill Light

I was planning on a dramatic sunset when I made arrangements for this portrait, but I got a dramatic cloudscape instead, and I am very pleased with the results. There are three light sources in this shot: The sun, casting just enough light through thick clouds to make an amazing backdrop; a Speedlite off to the subject’s left, and a florescent trouble light to his right. It’s my first attempt at lighting a subject with two artificial lights. I can see plenty of room for improvement, but for a rookie I’m down with this. My biggest complaint is with the dark line along the left side edges, and it gives me something to consider on how to improve on.
